Versatile Storage Starts with IKEA Expedit

It’s a window seat…

It’s a console table…

It’s a bookshelf?

The IKEA Expedit series are some of the most versatile storage solutions I’ve found.  In the office,  a single column 5-unit Expedit shelf sits on its side with a long cushion (covered in Majken in green) serves as a window seat.  Green Kassett magazine boxes under the window seat are used as containers for printing paper and extra wires and cords while Expedit drawer inserts all sorts of office supplies in an organized manner.  In the living room, an 8-unit Expedit shelf serves as a console table/room divider defining the space between the entryway and the living room.  This unit is currently housing all my cooking books and the bin and basket inserts provide more storage.  The variety of insert options for the Expedit series make it easy to re-purpose the pieces (a popular use for the 8-unit shelf is room divider when stood upright).  It’s all about versatility.

Love these storage solutions. I recently purchased the Expedit myself, but can’t find those beautiful red storage boxes. Would you be so kind as to share where you found them?

Hi Hilary, sorry for the late response. I got those red boxes also from IKEA, but it was a couple of years ago, so it’s possible that they’ve been discontinued. I’ve seen similar items at The Container Store.
